The First Grader. Movie About Maruge, Holder of Guinness World Records – Oldest Person to Enter Primary School

I just saw a movie based on a true story that was very inspirational. The First Grader is a story about an 84 year old man, Maruge, in Kenya, who wants to learn how to read. His determination when turned away from the school eventually wins over the teacher and he sits along his 6-year-old classmates working very hard to learn how to hold a pencil and form his first letters. His attendance in the classroom has some unwanted consequences.

As you watch the movie, you see flashbacks from his past. He had fought against the British for the freedom of his country. Everything he had, including his family, was destroyed by the British and he had been imprisoned in British camps for years, enduring unspeakable torture.

It was a pleasure to watch Maruge’s relationships with his teacher and his classmates develop into something very special, and to see how far of a journey he really took!

There were many good life lessons learned both inside and outside of the classroom!

Check it out and let me know if you liked it too.
