Today is Rapture Day – The Day of Ultimate Travel; Time for Believers to Travel Home

Today is supposed to be the day of ultimate travel – the beginning of the end, the time that true Christian believers are called home to Jesus and non-believers are left behind. Some people have sold their belongings, others have spent their savings to spread the word. Some enterprising individuals, who expect to be one of those left behind, have even sold contracts to send messages to loved ones of those who disappear during the rapture; others have offered contracts to take care of pets that are left behind.

The deadline of doom has already come and gone in New Zealand. Nothing seems to have changed. It got me thinking – How would we know if the date was real or not? What if the deadline was real, but nobody was taken because, at their core, there were no real believers? After reading the Left Behind books or watching the made for TV movie a few years ago, we saw some, who most loudly proclaimed their belief, were left behind while others who were not thought to be believers, were taken.

In a world where there is so much focus on status, obtaining not only material possessions but the right material possessions, greed, jealousy, cheating, intolerance, judgement of people who have values different from yours, a world where people are willing to make counterfeit drugs and other items which risk people’s lives in order for a few to make money, a world where shoddy materials are used putting lives at risk all for higher profits, a world where politicians, CEOs and religious leaders take care of themselves at the expense of others, how many people would actually have the right heart to be taken?

What if at the end of the day, doomsday and the rapture is real but everyone is left behind? How would we ever know it was real?

Here is an idea – in the future, instead of using money and energy to warn everyone about a specific doomsdaydate, use the money, passion and energy to help someone who is struggling today. Let me know what you think?
