After the Waves – Rebuilding Life 2 Years After a Tsunami in Samoa

We have all become all too familiar with tsunamis – the warning systems, the signs of their imminent arrival (such as disappearing sea from beaches as water is sucked back to greet the giant wave and then ride it back to shore), the videos that show the devastation as the waves hit and destroy everything in its path, the scramble to get to high ground, the pain and torment of those lucky enough to have survived.

What happens when you have no warning and only minutes to try to warn others and flee for safety? Read about the September 29, 2009 tsunami that hit Lalomanu Beach on the small South Pacific Island of Samoa and how one man rebuilds after losing 14 members of his family and nearly losing his own life. When you are having a bad day, just think about people who have lost nearly everything in the blink of an eye to put things back in perspective.
